The Joy of Moving

The Bottom Line Moving takes a lot of planning, but with being organized & planning, will help in the long run. Make lists, that will really help.

Well once again we are moving. My husband and, I looked around, for about three months. It was hard to find just the right apartment, as we live right next to RPI Collage. We wanted to stay in the same area, as the grade school, middle school & high school are just around the corner from us.There are also two Hospitals close by. Well let me tell you, the long wait was worth it. My husband & I found an apartment right around the corner from here and, still around the corner from the schools.

When moving, never just take the first thing that comes along. you will have to be there awhile, so choose wisley.

We have moved enough times and, we kind of have a routine that makes moving a little less painful & stressful. I am a very organized person & a stickler for detail. I start planning the move visually in my mind. I write lists of to-do’s. Here are some of my tips. I hope it is helpful.

Try to collect boxes of different sizes, when you are looking to move. It helps to have them on hand & ready to use. Also make sure to have tape on hand.

Tip #1 Make note of the number of windows you will have. Will you need new curtains & rods, hooks etc. Will you need electrical extension cords? Light Bulbs are a must have. Also you may need rugs, get the right size. Make sure you will have plenty of cleaning supplies,to clean old & new place. Tally up cost of everything you need, before you spend, so you know.

Tip #2 Clean out all junk, give it away, throw it away, but get rid of it. there is nothing worse than packing & moving things you don’t need. It just makes more work.

Tip #3 Go to the Post Office and,get the change of address cards,as soon as possible, make them out & keep them in a safe place till needed.

Tip#4 Call all the utilitie companies, to change your service, also credit cards, Insurance companies, Banks etc.,as soon as possible. You should do this at least 2 weeks in advance. You should also call & have a moving truck reserved if needed, also get all your moving help lined up,for the big day. You don’t want to end up carring everything yourself.

Tip#5 Try to sort and, pack as much as possible to start, then gradually pack what’s not needed as the days go by. The last few days, pack as much that won’t be needed as possible.

Tip#6 I use towels, sheets & blankets to pack breakables, such as:Knick knacks, & dishes. Also by using them , it is less to pack seperatley & move. Plus I’ve never had anything get broken in a move.

Tip#7 Also if you can move things in gradually before, the big day. This is what I do: I take my pictures & curtains and unpack & hang them up. I always wash my curtains before moving. I also bring what dishes and, closet clothes that I can & put them away as well. Also small pieces of furniture as well. This will help, when you move the rest of the stuff in. You won’t have 10 million boxes in the way and to un-pack.

Tip#8 Try to keep up on housework in the old place. I know it’s hard, but in the long run it will be less work, when you leave, you will be sure to get your deposit back. you also need to make sure the place is in good shape when you leave. There will be the normal wear & tear, don’t let the owner take advantage of you & they do try, they want to keep that extra buck.

THE BIG DAY !

It’s almost over and, you are halfway there. The help has arrived and, you have the truck. We like to take the biggest pieces first, while this is going on, I am packing the last of the things we needed to use.The next trip, all the smaller things & some boxes. Now everything is out, go back after last trip & check to make sure you have’nt missed anything, and place is clean. Notify Landlord you are out. do not give keys back, till you get deposit back.

“Whew” moving is a lot of work. But you are not done yet! You still have to finish un packing ( groan)

One Last Note Pizza & wings & beer party, for the people that helped us move in. We will be be having a really nice party here.

What Consumers Want Most in a Moving and Storage Company

PODS Enterprises, Inc. launches updated branding and new web site based on customer insights

(CLEARWATER, FLA.) – PODS Enterprises, Inc., a leader in moving and storage, recently completed comprehensive market research to better understand what customers value the most when moving or storing their valuables.

Using feedback from consumer focus groups, customer interviews and quantitative analysis, the company reveals that flexibility and convenience are top factors influencing customer satisfaction in the moving and storage experience.

“Forty percent of our customers report that greater flexibility is the number one advantage to using PODS,” said George Spowart, vice president of marketing for PODS. “By allowing customers to pack and load a PODS® container at their own pace, our company is substantially more flexible than traditional moving or rental truck companies.”Moving is cited as one of the top five stressors in a person’s life1. Many times, the stress from a change in residence is compounded by another life event such as job change, divorce or a family death.

Taking customer feedback to heart, PODS developed a more user-friendly web site, updated branding and messaging, and launched a new TV advertising campaign. (http://www.youtube.com/PODScompany)

The new web site, http://www.pods.com/, developed from the research and extensive user testing, is designed to allow residential, business and government customers to take more control of their move, whether they need to store their property on-site, move it to a secure PODS® Storage Center or move it across town or across the country. To help alleviate stress, the web site also provides access to a wide variety of informational topics ranging from first-time home buyer tax credits to safely storing your valuables and more.

Despite the housing market slowdown and a decrease in volume for traditional moving and rental truck companies, PODS saw long-distance moving services increase by double digit percentage points in fiscal 2009 over the previous year.

“PODS revolutionized the portable moving and storage industry over 10 years ago and we are still the best moving and storage idea ever,” Spowart said.

PODS Moving and Storage Continues U.S. Expansion, Announces Sale of Asheville, N.C. Franchise

CLEARWATER, FLA)- With successful franchise locations operating throughout the U.S., Australia and Canada, PODS Enterprises, Inc. (Portable Moving and Storage), today announced the sale of  franchising rights for the Asheville, N.C. market.

“I am excited to start this new venture with PODS, servicing the local Asheville, Hendersonville and Waynesville communities,” said Kelly Moore, manager of the Asheville franchise. Moore is a long-standing member of the local business community, having owned Carolina-based Carolina Crane in Franklin, N.C. for over 20 years.
